The Mention of the Major Sins (1)

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (r.a), “The Prophet (s.a.w) said, ‘Avoid the seven great destructive sins.’ The people enquired, ‘O Allah’s Apostle! What are they?’ He (s.a.w) said, ‘To join others in worship along with Allah, to practice sorcery, to kill the life which Allah has forbidden except for a just cause, to consume Riba, to eat up an orphan’s wealth, to give back to the enemy and fleeing from the battlefield at the time of fighting, and to accuse a chaste women, who never thought of anything touching chastity and are good believers.’”

[Bukhari, Kitab Al-Wasayah (55), 2766]

The Mention of the Major Sins (2)

Narrated by Anas (r.a), “The Prophet (s.a.w) was asked about the great sins. He (s.a.w) said, ‘To join others in worship with Allah. To be undutiful to his/her parents. To kill a person (which Allah has forbidden to kill). And to give a false witness.’”

[Bukhari, Kitab Al-Shahadaat (52), 2653]

“The texts of Quran & Sunnah have indicated that the punishment for sins can be removed from the servant by about ten causes. First: Repentance, as agreed upon amongst the Muslims. Second: Seeking forgiveness. Third: Good deeds which wipe out (evil ones). Fourth: That which repels punishment, the supplication of the believers for a believer, such as praying over his funeral. Fifth: What is done for the dead of righteous deeds such as charity and its likes. Sixth: The intercession of the Prophet (s.a.w) and others for the sinners on the Day of Judgement. Seventh: Calamities by which Allah expiates sins in the life of this world. Eighth: What occurs in the grave of tribulation, compression and fear. Ninth: The terrors of the Day of Judgement and the severity of its hardships. Tenth: Allah’s mercy, His pardon and forgiveness without any reason from the servant.”

[Majmoo-ul-Fatawa by Ibn Taymiyyah, Volume 7, Page 487]

But if you flow by the command of Allah, the One, the Subduer, Who is the One Who makes you flow, then we ask Allah to make you flow.’ He threw the piece of paper into the Nile ...

Opening for the Satan to Misguide

Abu Hurairah ... Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said, “Strong believer is better & more beloved to Allah than the weak ... If anything befalls, do not say, ‘If only I had done, then such & such would have happened,’ rather say, ‘Allah decreed & what He wills He does.’ For IF opens the door for the Satan.”

[Sahih Muslim, Book of Dreams (46), 6774]

“My concept of GOD is that He exists and that I cannot understand Him; I cannot comprehend Him; that He is infinite; my brain cannot operate with the concept of infinity ...”

Never Curse The Illness & Fever

Jabir bin Abdullah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) entered upon Umm As-Saib or Umm Al-Musayyab ... He (s.a.w) said, “Do not revile fever, for it takes away the sins of the sons of Adam as the bellows takes away the dross of iron.”

[Sahih Muslim, Kitab Al-Birr (45), 6570]

Upon the Death of His Son Ibrahim

Narrated by Anas bin Malik (r.a), “We went with Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w) to the blacksmith Abu Saif, and he was the husband of the wet-nurse of Ibrahim (the son of the Prophet). Allah’s Apostle took Ibrahim and kissed him and smelled him and later we entered Abu Saif’s house and at that time Ibrahim was in his last breaths, and the eyes of Allah’s Apostle (s.a.w) started shedding tears. Abdur Rahman bin Auf said, “O Allah’s Apostle, even you are weeping!” He said, “O Ibn Auf, this is mercy.” Then he wept more and said, “The eyes are shedding tears and the heart is grieved, and we will not say except what pleases our Lord, O Ibrahim ! Indeed we are grieved by your separation.”

[Sahih Bukhari, Actions while Praying (21), 1303]

Finding the Future for Curiosity or Fun

Narrated by Safiyya from some of the wives of the Prophet (s.a.w) that he said, “He who visits a diviner (fortune-teller) and asks him about anything, his prayers extending to forty nights will not be accepted.”

[Sahih Muslim, Kitab As-Salam (39), 5821]

Finding the Future & Believing in it

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (r.a) that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said, “Whoever goes to a fortune-teller ... and believes in whatever he said ... he will be cleared from what was revealed on Muhammad (s.a.w).”

The Arab Superstition about Eclipses

[Sahih Bukhari, Abwab At-Witr (14), 1043]

Devils Eavesdrop the Talks of Angels

Narrated by Aisha (r.a) that the Prophet (s.a.w) said, “While the angels talk amidst the clouds about things that are going to happen on earth, the devils hear a word of what they say and pour it in the ears of a soothsayer as one pours something in a bottle, and they add one hundred lies to it.”

[Sahih Bukhari, Beginning of Creation (59), 3288]

Hanging of Amulet is Shirk

Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani (r.a) reported, “A group of people came to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w). He accepted the pledge of allegiance of nine and did not accept it from one. They said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, you accepted the pledge of nine but not of this one.’ He (s.a.w) said, ‘He is wearing an amulet.’ So, he put his hand in and cut it, and thus, accepted his pledge and said, ‘Whoever hangs an amulet has committed Shirk (polytheism).’”

[Musnad Ahmad, 17422] (Sahih)

The Ring of the Prophet

Narrated by Ibn Umar (r.a), “Allah’s Apostle wore a gold ring or a silver ring and placed its stone towards the palm of his hand and had the name ‘Muhammad Rasool Allah’ engraved on it. The people also started wearing gold rings like it, but when the Prophet saw them wearing such rings, he threw away his own ring and said, ‘I will never wear it,’ and then wore a silver ring, whereupon the people too started wearing silver rings.” Ibn Umar added, “After the Prophet, Abu Bakr wore the ring, and then Umar and then Uthman wore it till it fell in the Aris well from Uthman.”

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (r.a) that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said, “Allah has removed the arrogance of pre-Islamic days and its boasting on ancestry. (You are either) a pious believer or a miserable sinner. And mankind is children of Adam (e.s) and Adam was (created) from dust.”

“Few individuals significantly alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world. Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation-state. Muhammad Ali Jinnah did all three.”

These are the opening lines of the preface of Stanley Wolpert’s book, “Jinnah of Pakistan”
First Published in 1984

“I find no parallel in history for a body of converts and their descendants claiming to be a nation apart from the parent stock. If India was one nation before the advent of Islam, it must remain one in spite of the change of faith of a very large body of her children.”

Obedience is Allowed only for Good

[Bukhari, Kitab Al-Maghazi (64), 4340]

Loving your Nation more than Allah

“And [yet], among the people are those who take other than Allah as equals [to Him]. They love them as they [should] love Allah. But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah ...”

[Surah Al-Baqarah (2), Ayat 165]

The Prophet Supplicated for Madina

Narrated by Aisha (r.a) that the Prophet (s.a.w) supplicated, “O Allah! Make us love Medina as You made us love Mecca, or more, and transfer the fever that is in it, to Al-Juhfa. O Allah! Bless our Mudd and our Saa' (kinds of measures).”

[Sahih Muslim, Kitab Al-Dawaat (80), 6372]

Prophet Expressed His Love for Madina

Narrated by Abu Humaid (r.a) that they went out along with the Messenger (s.a.w) in the expedition of Tabuk ... We proceeded until Madina was within our sight, and he (s.a.w) said, “This is Tabah (Madina); this is Uhud, the mountain which loves us and we love it.”

Iqbal after Witnessing a Comet

“15 May, 1910: Yesterday morning at about 4, I saw that glorious visitor of our hemisphere known as Halley’s comet. Once in seventy-five years this superb swimmer of infinite space appears on our skies. It is only with the eyes of my grandsons that I shall see it again ...”

[Stray Relections, Page 26]

Muslims are like One Body / Ummah

Narrated by Numan bin Bashir, Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said, “The likeness of the believers in their mutual love, mercy and compassion is that of the body; when one part of it is in pain, the rest of the body joins it in restlessness and fever.”
