“The modern democratic form of Government is not suitable to the genius of the Indian People ... We want a true democracy in accordance with Islam and not a Parliamentary Government of the Western or Congress type.”
[Addressing the Hostel Parliament of Ismail Yusuf College on 1 February 1943]
“I do not know what the ultimate shape of this constitution is going to be, but I am sure that
it will be of a democratic type, embodying the essential principles of Islam ... Islam and its idealism have taught us democracy. It has
taught equality of men, justice and fairplay
to everybody.”
[Broadcast to the people of United States on 26 February 1948]
“Say, ‘He is the [one] Able to send upon you affliction from above you or from beneath your feet or to confuse you [so you become] sects and make you taste the violence of one another.’ Look how We diversify the signs that they might understand.”

[Sahih Bukhari, Kitab Al-Fitn (92), 7083]
Narrated by Abu Hurairah (r.a) that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said, “There will be afflictions during which a sitting person will be better than a standing one, and the standing one will be better than the walking one, and the walking one will be better than the running one, and whoever will expose himself to these afflictions, they will destroy him. So whoever can find a place of protection or refuge from them, should take shelter in it.”
[Sahih Bukhari, Kitab Al-Fitn (92), 7081]
“And if you fear dissension between the two, send an arbitrator from his people and an arbitrator from her people. If they both desire reconciliation, Allah will cause it between them. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Acquainted [with all things].”
[Surah An-Nisa (4), Ayat 35]
Narrated by Sahl ibn Mu'adh ibn Anas al-Juhani from his father, “I fought along with the Prophet (s.a.w) in such and such battles. The people occupied much space and encroached on the road. The Prophet (s.a.w) sent an announcer to announce among the people, ‘Those who occupy much space or encroach on the road will not be credited with jihad.’”
[Sunan Abi Dawood, Kitab Al-Jihad (15), Hadith 2629] (Hasan)
Narrated by Ibn Umar (r.a) that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said, “When you become involved in inah, hold the tails of oxen, are pleased with agriculture, and give up jihad. Allah will make disgrace prevail over you, which will not withdrawn until you return back to your religion.”
[Sunan Abi Dawood, Kitab Al-Ijarah (24), Hadith 3462] (Sahih)
At first Umar wanted to divide the land among the conquerors ... Umar and his supporters did not think that the conquered lands should be divided, but some of the Sahabah including Bilal ibn Rabah and az-Zubayr ibn Awwam, thought that it should be divided ...
One of the most important effects of this decision was that it put an end to the feudal system. Umar abolished the unfair system that had made land-ownership a monopoly and enslaved the peasants to cultivate the land for nothing ... he (Umar) guaranteed their provision so as to keep them from being distracted by anything from jihad for the sake of spreading the call of Islam.
